Metis!

Kansas City's newest Music Sensation!

Alex Reynolds is a singing sensation! Alex is a STAR!

Last night at the Beaumont Club in Westport, the band called METIS, took part in the annual Battle of the Bands. Metis is a Greek word meaning "wit, skill, knowledge" and a good choice of a name for a band who's members are 4 University of Kansas students.

Just between you and me, if any other band had won, it would have been a crime! Metis was so much better than the other 8 bands! Not only do they sound amazing, but they write their own music and lyrics! And they are CUTE! Just look at them! The other bands were wearing grubby old stocking caps over long unkempt hair and thrown together "costumes" of down vests (wasn't it 75 degrees yesterday?) and God only knows what other unwashed items of clothing! Sure, I am being a very proud grandmother, but I am also an honest one!

Unfortunately, from my vantage point, I couldn't even see the drummer for Metis, but I heard those drums, and they were perfect! The bass guitar was magnificent and the lead guitarist, Miles was unbelievable! How do you get that much talent and ability before you are 20 years old? Musically speaking, those three young men performed beautifully together on each of the 5 songs.
Then there was Alex. What can I say....when he was 18 months old he would leap from one piece of furniture to the next, complete with vocals and air guitar. We should have known!

Alex has a clear voice that never misses a key. He can sing with gentleness and sincerity in one song, bringing tears to his Aunt Betsy's eyes, and then belt out the next, complete with raspy, throaty lyrics that get right in your face!

...I am almost speechless!

The boys will be competing in the finals on June 14th at the Beaumont Club to win the honor of opening for David Cook, Kansas City's own American Idol! I'll be there! Let me know if you want to go help me cheer on the men of METIS!
And when I go to the Grammy's to see the boys accept their entertainer of the year award, I'll take lots of photos and blog about it, too!
